Salisbury Beach Boat Ramps
Salisbury Beach State Reservation has two boat ramps on the Merrimack River, at the southern edge of the campground near the river mouth. DCR lists them for motorboats, canoes and kayaks. The ramps are inside the reservation, which is open sunrise to sunset, and the usual day-use parking fee applies in season: $14 for Massachusetts plates and $40 for out-of-state plates from May 23 to October 12.
The Boat Ramps at a Glance
Where the Ramps Are
Enter the reservation on State Reservation Road and follow the signs toward the campground and the river. DCR's booking system places both ramps on the Merrimack at the campground's southern edge. The reservation's nature trail ends near the boat ramp, so walkers and boaters share this corner of the park.

Before You Launch
- Check the tide. The river at the ramps rises and falls with the ocean tide. Look up NOAA's predictions for the Merrimack River entrance on our tides page and plan your launch and haul-out around them.
- Check the marine forecast. The National Weather Service's Boston/Norton office issues the coastal marine forecast. See weather.
- Know the river mouth. Heading out to sea means passing between the two stone jetties through the Newburyport Harbor channel, which the Army Corps gives as 400 feet wide and 12 feet deep at the entrance. Current is strongest when the tide turns.
Paddling
DCR lists canoeing and kayaking at the reservation. The river side is more sheltered than the open beach, but the outgoing current near the river mouth is strong. Paddle near shore, wear a life jacket, and stay out of the main channel.
Parking and Fees
DCR's day-use parking fee covers launching: $14 for Massachusetts plates and $40 for out-of-state plates, May 23 to October 12. Massachusetts state parks parking passes are accepted, and you can pay with the YODEL app. Out of season, parking is free. See hours and fees.
